A Bespoke Shaker Kitchen Designed for a Norfolk Cottage

This bespoke Shaker kitchen in Little Snoring, Norfolk, was all about transformation.

When we first stepped into this traditional Norfolk cottage, the space felt dark and disconnected from the owners’ vibrant energy. The existing layout lacked storage and wasn’t working hard enough for modern living. The room was calling out for a central island — somewhere to enjoy a morning coffee, use a tablet, or simply gather as a couple.

The brief was clear: design a bespoke kitchen that works beautifully around quirky, uneven cottage walls while respecting the character of the building.

As a Norfolk-based kitchen design studio, we collaborated closely with the clients’ builder and electrician to ensure the structure and services were properly prepared before installation began.

Bespoke Storage Solutions

Storage was a key priority in this kitchen design.

We created a bespoke corner larder with a made-to-measure carcass and integrated sensor-activated LED lighting — ensuring both practicality and a touch of luxury. Slim pull-out units frame the oven, providing easy access to spices and utensils without cluttering the main cabinetry.

During the design meetings, the clients — keen gardeners — explained their need for increased fridge and freezer capacity to store fresh produce and preserve homegrown crops. Our initial plan for two tall units was restricted by an existing ceiling beam. Rather than compromise, we developed a tailored solution: a combined coffee station and dresser that anchors the run, with the fridge positioned neatly at the end.

Every element of the cabinetry was carefully measured and designed to sit comfortably within the uneven walls of this traditional Norfolk cottage. The result is a kitchen that works with the building’s character rather than fighting against it.

Intelligent Kitchen Design for Modern Living

At the heart of this Norfolk kitchen renovation sits a sociable centre island. More than just preparation space, it acts as a natural hub — for coffee, conversation, light admin and everyday life.

To support modern living, we integrated a discreet flip-up socket by EvoLine within the island. This allows phones and tablets to be charged conveniently while maintaining clean, uninterrupted worktop lines.

The 30mm quartz worktop is a standout feature. Running the quartz seamlessly into the window sill creates a continuous surface that enhances natural light while increasing usable workspace — a practical design detail that also delivers visual impact. The subtle sparkle within the quartz adds brightness and helps lift the entire room.

The Design Direction — Classic Shaker in Fjord Finish

The clients selected a timeless Shaker door in a soft Fjord finish — a calming, heritage-inspired colour perfectly suited to a cottage setting.

As self-confessed heavy-handed cooks, durability was important. We recommended a high-quality wrapped door rather than hand-painted cabinetry to ensure the kitchen would stand up to everyday life without compromising on aesthetics.

The design process carefully considered layout, handles, appliances and flow. To introduce warmth and personality, we incorporated a cheerful yellow splashback — a bold yet balanced contrast against the softer cabinetry tones.

The Result — A Light-Filled Norfolk Shaker Kitchen

This Little Snoring kitchen renovation is now bright, functional and full of personality. It respects the heritage of the cottage while delivering modern convenience, intelligent storage and durable finishes.
